Back from Bakersfield

This last weekend, Laetitia and I went to Bakersfield for the state board meeting of the National Smooth Dancers. We flew out there on Friday, which took us from San Diego to LAX, and from there to the Bakersfield airport. We entertained ourselves in the layover with the iPod video and lots of crossword puzzles and conversation. Each leg of the flight wasn't even a half hour... we wondered why we didn't drive since the total travel time was around 5 hours to get there.

We had a decent hotel room with a comfortable bed, so we were well rested for the events of the next day: a Tango workshop, judging their ballroom competitions, and doing a 4-dance exhibition that evening.

It all went really well, and they were an awesome audience. Rarely to do you get a room full of people in black tie that actually know how to ballroom dance... I wish I had some pictures/video of that.

Our trip back on Sunday was a little rough. The LAX to SD leg was delayed, which gave us some time to eat at LAX, but we just wanted to go home. Anyway, we made it back in one piece :D

Return from BYU

It's soooo nice to be back home. There was snow, but no skiing... it was all about dancing. Laetitia and I travelled with John and Klair. They competed in Standard on Friday night, and we danced in Smooth on Saturday night.

Laetitia and I danced in a quarter final, and made it to the final and placed 5th overall. I'll try to post some video clips in the next day or so, but for now, it's time to catch up on some much needed rest and get ready for the normal routine of work and practice

We're off to BYU (NDCA Nationals)

Tonight we have a lesson, Laetitia has to do some finishing touches on her new dress, and then we'll be packing, since tomorrow we have an early flight to Provo, UT, where we'll be dancing in the NDCA circuit's national ballroom championships.

We don't compete until Saturday, so getting there tomorrow should give us time to rest, catch up on sleep, and get used to the higher altitude.

Anyway, if I don't get to post anything during our trip, keep us in your thoughts!

P.S. Happy Birthday Edgar!

UCSD Competition

At the last minute here, Laetitia and I decided to enter in the local UCSD ballroom dance competition, since the NDCA Nationals are the following week at BYU, and we thought it wouldn't hurt to get some inexpensive practice in.

For those of you that are in SoCal and want to see us dance for cheap, this is the perfect event, since it's only 10 dollars for admission.

We're also going to get a chance to catch up with old friends from the other attending universities.
