No Doubt Concert

Haven't written for a while, but we had some fun last night so I thought it was worth writing about :-)

Laetitia and I went to the No Doubt concert in San Diego last night. It was the first concert we've been to since George Michael came to San Diego last year. I had previously gone on the record saying that there were two concerts I'd be willing to go to: George Michael and Gwen Stefani / No Doubt, and it's pretty cool that I got the chance within such a short time. By the way, I never thought I'd get to see George Michael, because he's always "retiring", so that was pretty cool.

Anyway, about last night...

We both took off work early because we were anticipating traffic for the Memorial Day weekend, and we have to take care of Pumpkin. Laetitia got home before me and took Pumpkin on a 90-minute walk - her longest walk EVER! Even after that walk, she still managed to show so excitement to see me when I got home.

Pumpkin was handed off to me, where she went almost immediately into the sink for a bath. Her fur tends to pick up a lot of stuff even on a normal walk, so she was particularly dusty after a walk that long.

She's a lot of work! After pulling out all the burs and stickers, washing her down, and doing an optional cream rinse session, I still got to look forward to blowdrying her for a half hour, which still doesn't get her completely dry... at least she was fluffy and beautiful!

The concert was supposed to start at 7:30, and there was an opening act of course, so we figured we could get there at 8:30. We fed Pumpkin and tucked her in, and left on our trek to Chula Vista, where No Doubt was performing at the Cricket Amphitheater.

I was worried about the traffic, crowds, and parking, especially after seeing how bad things can get when leaving a large event - getting out of the George Michael concert was not fun.

We took the opportunity of being in a different neighborhood to have dinner at Chick-fil-a - still wish we had one around here. While we were there, Laetitia inquired into buying a case of their mints... yes, a CASE! Well, they said they'd be glad to sell us one, so we bought one... we have mints coming out our ears now.

We got to the concert around 8:30. I was impressed with the traffic direction on the way there, which was both police and kids with light sabers. We had to park on a dirt lot, so it was a good thing Laetitia didn't wear her heals.

We had tickets for the 100-section, which is the section just above the pit, so can't get much better. I was happy, because this was closer than we were for the George Michael one. Also, it was kind of nice to be outside for a concert. It was dusk and the weather was nice.

Not long after we arrived, Paramore started, which I guess was the second act to perform. The female lead and their sound was very comparable to a No Doubt line up... not bad, but I couldn't help but notice all the teenage girls around us that new the words - we've obviously been missing something.

Finally, which must have been an hour later, NO DOUBT! They first appeared as sillouettes behind a large white curtain, and then it dropped and the show was on. The sound was so loud it was ear numbing, and a little hard to hear Gwen's voice, but we know the words and the band was great. The energy was very hight.

What was really cool was at the beginning of Just A Girl, Gwen drops down and does probably 10 "boy" pushups, and halfway through the song, bolted right by us to run up to the 300's and jump into the crowd to sing a few bars - lucky AJ (our friend) got to be right in that (he got a great picture with his iPhone)!

Anyway, long story short, it was a blast. They did a 3-song encore, which was a treat, but after that we were satisfied...

It took us about an hour to get out of the lot and back home... not too bad. Pumpkin was very happy to see us at 11:30pm, and rattled her toys around for the next half hour or so to let us know she missed the attention.

Anyway, still got all the songs stuck in my head... it was a good time :-)
